The best Christmas gift guide for surfers and watersport lovers!

Christmas is a little different this year, isn’t it? Can’t pretend it isn’t. But that doesn’t mean that we didn’t want to do our second annual Christmas gift guide for the surfer, paddle boarder or SUP’er in your life.

We have focused on UK brands and packed our list full of Cornish and Bude businesses too! You’ll find something for everyone from eco gifts to charitable ones and for that outdoorsy, wave lover in your lives.

We’ve catered for all budgets and thrown in a few stocking fillers too. Do tag us on social media if you end up using our list #FreewaveLittleChristmas

All our gifts are available online and from small businesses wherever possible as they need us more than ever this year. We are also loving the #ShopSmallStartEarly hashtag to find small and British makers, artists and businesses.

Kind to the planet

As the song goes, everybody’s free to wear sunscreen – and ALL surfers should. We love this British natural brand Green People. This one is scent-free too, so will suit those sensitive souls in your life.

In a bid to do our bit for the waterways and oceans and some of the tide of waste that washes up on our surfboards and coastline, the Cornish company Circular&Co. have created a keep cup made from single-use coffee cups. Genius, right? Not only that, when it reaches its end of life it is fully recyclable. Win/win. This one also donates money to Refill who work to tackle single-use plastic at source.

As well as coffee cups, another blight on our coastline is plastic-based nappies and period products. Aside from the fact they shouldn’t be flushed or end up in the sea, there is an alternative that is kinder to the planet and bodies. This ace swimsuit from Modibodi will make any day a surf day!

Guys

Look stylish and donate money in this Surfers Against Sewage T-shirt. Made from organic cotton with a great message to boot.

Freewave is a member of the SAS 250 Club as we really care about the campaigns they champion, and as a Cornish organisation they are stonking at getting the attention of change makers and the Government.

This pop-up balance trainer is perfect for off-season surfers or anyone who is shielding or in isolation, you can work on your core strength, get advantages that come with having a stand up desk and refine your skills when you can’t get out on the water.

Ever seen a wetsuit or towel at the side of the road? Chances are it was hung on a traditional hanger on the rear wiper or door handle and flew off when forgotten! Make sure that never happens to you is by using this magnetic wetsuit hanger.

Described as “an enthusiastic, pleasingly madcap book” this guide – Microadventures – is the perfect book for the outdoors chap or chappess in your life. Getting out in the wild has never had more importance and this is the perfect guide to pop in their pocket or glovebox.

Girls

Another Cornish brand we love is Atlantic Blankets – every van or car should have one of these for lazy days, summer picnics, or wrapping up warm in winter.

A towelling coat, like this one from Zuma Jay is invaluable when you need to change at the side of the road.

We hate to admit it but there are sometimes days when the sky is blue but there are just no waves. Those days call for a good book. This one, set along the South West coastal path is simply stunning and such a poignant read. The Salt Path by Raynor Winn.

The worst kept secret ever – The Wave is a favourite amongst the whole team at Freewave (in fact, if you are reading this Mum, I would like a voucher)!

The Wave is near Bristol and is an inland surf destination. They can create waves to cater for beginners and experienced surfers. You can buy vouchers here.

This lush rucksack is designed and made here in Bude by Rooted Ocean. Not only is it super useful as a day pack, the guys offer lifetime repairs. Check out their website for other beaut pieces including blankets, clothing and boardbags.

Coasteer

It wouldn’t be a #FreewaveChristmas list without having a gift voucher from us! If your loved one fancies trying coasteering then get them a Freewave Gift Voucher, as you should only coasteer in groups and you get all the safety kit from us!

SUP’er

No matter what your ability, or how far you head, when on a stand-up paddleboard it is important to have your phone with you. This Swimcell Phone Case is a great gift.

Or how about this new paddle? I mean, every paddle boarder needs a paddle, right?

Charity

Increasing people want to give experiences (like our vouchers – hint hint) or support a charity as part of their Christmas gifting.

These beanies from the Wave Project will not only keep them warm out of the water, The Wave Project supports young people with mental health issues and anxiety.

Anyone who spends time at the beach will have sadly seen, and hopefully then picked up, litter and ocean waste.

The team at The 2 Minute Foundation coordinates two minute beach cleans, and maybe if you can’t get to the beach right now you can donate to them so they can keep up their hard work.

And finally, a non-surf or water gift idea, because this year has been tough on lots of people. The Trussell Trust and Fairshare are working in communities across the UK who are struggling right now.

We hope this Christmas list helps you find gifts for your loved ones.

We would love you to tag us #FreewaveLittleChristmas if you end up gifting one of our ideas.
