By far the best way to start your ‘learn to surf’ journey or to improve your existing surfing ability is to get lessons from skilled and experienced surfing instructors. It’s amazing how simple it is to get riding the waves when provided with the appropriate surf instruction and surfing equipment. When you’re up on riding that surfboard on your very first surfing lesson, it will be one of the most exhilarating experiences you’ll ever have!
Our surfing lessons are held at our surf school which is located at the beautiful surfing beach of Widemouth Bay in Bude, Cornwall. Widemouth Bay is one of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall and a perfect place for beginners to learn to surf.
At Widemouth Bay, we operate small group surf lessons which allow for more personal attention. All equipment is included and all surfing lessons are between 2 – 2.5 hours in length. We also offer Private Surfing Lessons and can accommodate large group surf bookings. Please contact us for more information on these.

Taster Surfing Lesson – 1 Surfing Lesson at Widemouth Bay in Bude, Cornwall
The Taster Surfing Lesson is exactly what it says on the tin. If you are looking to have a little taste of learning to surf or looking to refresh your memory of the basics, then our Taster Surf Lessons are the perfect place to start!
You will start your surf lesson by meeting your instructor at Widemouth Bay Beach Carpark near Bude, Cornwall. We will fix you up with a suitably sized warm wetsuit and surfboard. Then it’s time to stroll down the beach to the water’s edge and go through some surfing lesson safety and instruction. Once you are ready and warmed up it’s time to hit the waves and see what surfing is all about. By the end of the first surfing lesson we aim to have everybody up on their feet and shredding!
£45 per person. All equipment is included as part of your surf lesson
The Surfing Experience (Recommended) – 2 Surfing Lessons over two days at Widemouth Bay in Bude, Cornwall
The Surfing Experience is our recommended surfing lesson package for those looking to give learning to surf a really good go!
The Surfing Experience package is made up of 2 surfing lessons. The first lesson covers all of the basics included in the Taster Surfing Lesson. During the second lesson is where you will find your surfing feet and we start to work on turning, trimming and other surfing manoeuvres!
£85 per person. All equipment is included as part of your surfing lessons
The Surf Plus Course – 3 Surfing Lessons over three days at Widemouth Bay in Bude, Cornwall
The Surf Plus Course is our surfing lesson package designed for those that want to really immerse themselves into learning to surf. The package is made up of 3 x surfing lessons which include the Taster Surfing Lesson, the Surfing Experience and then followed by a third surf lesson to develop your skills even further. This package allows you the greatest opportunity to learn skills, improve knowledge and gain confidence in the breaking waves. If the conditions allow, then this package is the one for learning how to paddle out through waves as well as learning to catch and ride green waves.
£125 per person. All surf equipment is included in as part of your surfing lessons

Absolutely Fantastic ExperienceIf you want surfing lessons in Bude – this is the place to go! My wife and I had two surfing lessons with Glynn while staying in the area and had an absolutely brilliant time on both. Glynn was a great surf instructor and by the end of the second surfing lesson, both of us (neither of whom had ever been on a surfboard before) were standing up and surfing confidently. We both felt totally safe while in the water and Glynn was never far away to give us pointers and help us improve. Wetsuit and surfboard hire was provided and you could leave your stuff in their locked trailer. 10/10 would recommend.

Top Beach ActivityFinished my first surf lesson today at Widemouth Bay with Marco as our surfing instructor. What an amazing experience! Tutoring was clear and helpful, loaned wetsuit fitted great and the foam boards made catching waves easier. Thank you, I will be booking another lesson again.
SuperbExcellent; wouldn’t hesitate to book again, thank you Marco and Joe. Surfing & coasteering rock!! Both my boys were booked for surf lessons on two consecutive days in August having used Freeware last summer. The first day surfing with Marco was brilliant and the boys really enjoyed it. The following day the waves were too small so we were offered coasteering instead which was amazing. Marco and Joe we’re excellent with the boys who loved every minute of it (boys aged 11 and 14). Thank you very much, we will be back again next year!
Quality Lesson and InstructionBooked a lesson for 6:30am in the morning at Widemouth bay and was greeted my Marco, who told me I was the only person booked on. He was brilliant and helped me quickly get to grips with surfing again. I surfed when I was younger and he helped me recap and get standing quickly. He was really supportive and made me feel really comfortable in amongst the waves. Would recommend to anyone wanting to try surfing, instructor had good communication and patience as well as being really helpful in the surf to pick the right wave and give you a little push on your way.
Amazing ExperienceOur 13 & 15 year olds first surfing lesson with Emily. They had an absolutely amazing time. Great for their confidence and both of them were standing up and surfing.
